God is Not Great

Have been listening to Christopher Hitchens’ new atheism screed for the past few days. Of course, the anger at religion in general is noteworthy. As is the anecdotal kind of argument. In many ways it’s less an argument than a personal diatribe. Of course there is a place for such a thing, but the lapses in reason (for someone who advocates reason as authority over religion) is disappointing. He is such an interesting character; it’s a shame he approached the topic with this tone.

Having said that, I felt the first chapter or so was intriguing in the way it was more of a confession of positive belief than an attack on religion. Not a faith I think is ultimately livable, to be sure, but it made the book so much more personal.
